Slavit's Tightrope Walker stood positioned underneath the classical blue and gold Paris dome in Fanueil Hall throughout 1988, soaring high above Boston's Quincy Market, creating a focused and calm specter of serenity above the bustling crowds. This 7-foot tall fabric-and-air sculpture, done in technical collaboration with Anthony Nuzzo and William Murrel, is pictured in its various stages of development; from rough sketch to well-engineered inflatable.

Directly below, in its final form, the athlete teeters softly over the swaying masses, shimmering in the light.
