The Chinese Acrobat, an inflatable of red nylon, was installed in various sites around China. Slavit made the piece after she was chosen to be part of an American delegation––mostly comprised of school admnistrators, practicing artists from public schools, and academically trained researchers with interests in arts education––to travel to China, at the invitation of their Ministry of Culture, and begin an ongoing dialogue on the organization's goals and methods, and the context of arts education in both countries. The collaboration was one of the first of its kind, and a major step in artistic relations between the two nations.
